Georgia's First Lady Visits Berrien County!

LAKELAND — Berrien County Middle School students shared what they are learning Thursday with Georgia first lady Sandra Deal and Georgia State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge.

“We thought it would be nice to visit here and see what was going on with your students,” said Deal, the wife of Gov. Nathan Deal. “We just love coming to visit schools and see what’s going on and encourage the students and encourage the teachers.”

Prior to visiting Berrien Middle, Deal and Barge visited Brunswick High School and a primary school in Cook County.

“We thought we need to find a middle school somewhere closer around and we thought that Berrien Middle School would be a good choice for us,” said Deal.

Deal and Barge toured the middle school and went into various classrooms. Both made a point to be very interactive with the students and the teachers.

“It’s really important for teachers to know that we support them,” said Barge. “It’s amazing how encouraged the teachers and the leaders are in the systems just by us showing up and saying we want to see what you’re doing.”
